Hey guys I just pick up a set of 16x8 American racing fuel wheels. The center bore is about 1/4" bigger the the hub itself, I've never had aftermarket wheels but I'm assuming I'm going to need to order hub-centrics to make up the difference. But just wanted to make sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Compare to your stock rims, are they hub centric? My 93 is lug centric. I'm sure Ford went hub centric at some point since 93, but I would guess (just a guess) that it wasn't in 97.

The '97 Explorer isn't hub-centric. The 2011+ may be, but the RWD/AWD Explorers sure aren't.

The factory wheels are lug-centric, as are those aftermarket wheels, hence the larger hub bore.

It's actually a pretty bad idea to use hub-centric rings on a vehicle designed for lug-centric wheels. Between the rough and off-center hub bore of the wheels and the imperfect circle of the hub edge, you're pretty much guaranteed to make your wheels off-center, and probably tweak the lugs and/or get a lug nut stuck on more than one.

Use lug-centric wheels, use factory or the correct lug nuts for the wheels, be sure they are torqued to spec, check them again after 20-50 miles, drive safe and enjoy.

You mean use lug centric, right?

Thanks for the help guys like I said I've never had a set of after market wheels so it's kind of unfamiliar territory, I just know what I've read about aftermarket wheels and such and just wanted the be 100% sure so that I didn't start driving and messing stuff up. They are very similar to those wheels but 6 spokes instead of 8. Mine are the ar619 that I had to strip and repaint, the guy before painted them white and I repainted them. Here is a pic of them

Nice rims. As long as you use the correct style of lug nuts, you'll be fine. From the pic, it looks like not the coned stock type.

Explorer's with M12 lugs and others with M14 lugs have different size holes in the rims? or are all rims 14mm holes?

I am okay with the bolt patterns. My question is in regard to the diameter of the Explorer lugs. Some older Explorer lugs are 12mm diameter, and the new Explorer lugs are 14mm diameter. My question was, did the hole diameter change in the rim?, or has the rim hole always been large enough to accept both lug sizes?
