Hub Conversion Kit necessary?

I have a 93 XLT and the factory auto lock hubs are shot. Is the hub conversion kit necessary when replacing the autos with manuals? My son has a full size Bronco, and he was able to replace the factory autos with a set of manual Warn's without using the conversion kit. Also, just what does the conversion kit convert?
 






All you need is the Warn manual hubs. Good to go!!
 






you do need the conversion "kit" it consists of 2 spindle nuts, 2 locking rings, and 2 spindle lock nuts. You also need a spindle nut tool, which is just a large socket, with 4 prongs
