I'm having trouble finding a manual hub conversion kit online

Can you show me how to pump fluid out of that front differential?
There is literally no way to stick a hose in there

I've done it before but I haven't had that axle in over ten years. I used a cheap HF fluid pump. It has a smaller diameter hose. That's the only way since there's no drain plug.

I will try again! With a smaller pump
I mean come on how much do you save by not adding one more plug for a drain… sheesh

I did
I drilled the bottom hole in my diff and the lowest bolt is now the drain plug

The diff has to be dropped and the cover removed to do this. I assume most of these diffs never get their fluid changed only ever topped off. So doing more then one fluid change is likely not needed for most people. But we are not most people. I keep my trucks forever

That's pretty clever. I like pulling the cover so I can inspect at the same time, but that would be a great trick for a daily driver. With my trail rig Explorer I'll pull the covers about every other year. Same time I inspect the wheel bearings, replace the transfer case fluid, and drain about half the trans fluid and refill. It gets the oil changed every year whether it needs it or not.

That’s a fill plug

and that is a ttb 91-94 explorer 83-97 ranger

We are discussing the 96-04 explorer sla suspension

Wait, what? OP has a 94, and this is the first gen section…
Did I miss where the convo took a turn?

Speaking of pumping the old fluid out of the differential. I thought the fluid in the transfer case look thin and used up. I was thinking of replacing it also. Google says 2.5 pints of Mercon V transmission fluid is recommended in the transfer case. Does that sound right? My explorer is a 94.

Sorry dudes I’m a moron sometimes
I was discussing manual hubs on a 98-99 ranger and got my threads confused

Yes you can suck the fluid out of the ttb front diff the tube will fit in that diff

The 95+ diff there is no way in heck to stick any sort of tube into the diff through the fill hole

Do not use Mercon v in your t case
Use Mercon iii, regular atf
