Hub grease shield?

I'm replacing the front hubs on a 1999 XLT. I've read on this forum that there is a "hub grease shield" that goes behind the hub on the knuckle. My donor vehicle (also a 1999 XLT) didn't have any that I could see when I pulled the hubs and neither does the vehicle I am repairing. Is anyone familiar with this grease shield? Does anyone have a part number, diagram or photograph of one in action? Thanks.

I think the official name Dust Excluder Shield and it attaches to the CV. I recall a good description from a Ranger site. Likely one here, too. Excluder is the key word.

Thanks. Found the post you referred to. Very helpful. Seems they come with new CVs and not with reman CVs, or can be purchased separately: PN is YL2Z-3K070-AA, Shield, Dust Qty. 2.

Still have no idea where the ones from my vehicles ended up. Probably never will.

I've been trying to trace a road-speed related noise for several years now and the dust excluder seals are on my (shrinking) list of things to check/fix/replace/rule out. I notice that the TSB listed in the link excludes '97 explorers like mine. Can anyone confirm that the '97 4x4 CV lacks these pieces, or the '97 part is somehow different and/or not prone to this issue? I'm trying to understand why the '97 is not included in the TSB.

When the dust excluder goes bad, the squeal is a constant pitch squeal that doesn't change with speed. There was a TSB years ago (more than a decade ago) to replace them with the updated part.
