I'm going to put some Warn locking hubs on this weekend and was wondering what tools and advice anyone may have. I have taken the front end apart to do brakes, but my best friend/mechanic was there to help me out. Also, what size is the nut on there? I might be able to get the socket from my neighbor who works at a Ford dealerhsip, but I was thinking of buying one; ideas where I can get one? Thanks

Most parts houses sell the tool.

I paid 9 dollars at pep boys. When looking at the sockets, explorer well not be listed on the box. look for 1/2 ton ford/chevy 4x4. Also look at the tool itself,it will be the smallest diameter with four prongs. Warn directions also lists the tools and procedures. If you didnt get the adapter kit you can also use the1/2 ford chevy locking bolt set in its place, usually and 19 dollars. Good luck.

Installation of Warn hubs is very simple:
1:Remove the tinnerman clips
2:Remove the hublock assembly from thehub and rotor assembly.
3:remove the retaining ring,thrustwashers etc.
4:Remove thecam assembly, thrust spacer and thrust bearing
5:remove the locking key
6:and finally,remove thewheel bearing adjusting nut .

7:replace auto hubs with the manuals, reinstall the washer, thrust bearing and retaining ring
8:install the hublock assembly against the hub and rotor
9: put your wheel back on and torque to 100 ft-lbs (I think they call for 135 ft-lbs,but that is too much pressure in my opinion, especially if you are running aluminum rims)

Trust me,this was the best investment you ever made.Stock auto hubs are useless in the offroad !!!

So I wont need the 2 3/8 socket(the one they have in my Chilton Manual? regular 6 sided that I had to use when I did my brakes) to take off my wheel bearings?! I had to buy a bearing conversion kit, I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out, I was just wondering if I needed anything else ahead of time....Thanks

You'll need that socket to get the autohubs off, but you might be able to get by with out it. That big nut is replaced by the standard D44 spindle nut, which you need the 4 pronged socket for.

I just replaced mine today with Warn and all I used was a screwdriver and hammer. Once you get the locking pin out, the nut is not all that tight and will come loose with a few taps to the left. When you install the new nuts, just do the exact same thing turning to the right.
