I dont know if this really is considered "under the hood" but in a way it is under the hood

Anyways. Im wondering if my hub is blown or is about to blow.

I put it in 4 wheel drive this weekend (auto hubs) and I gave it gas and all you heard was a gggggggrrrrrrr BAM!!! GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR BAM!! , only when I gave it gas, but only when the tire was working agains something. Then after that the hub was't wanting to unlock. After reengaging and backing up about 15 times it finally unlocked.

Also when I was in the mud and would give it some gas it would do the same thing Grinding like a *******.

it just sounds like that hub is spins inside a slams back to gear.

is she blown??

Thanks
Ryan

Sounds like time for new manual hubs to me:(. That usually indicates the hubs are on the way out. It's a common problem with the Explorers. Warn makes the replacement. You need to get a hub wrench ($8) an adapter kit with the hubs (fancy term for 4 nuts and 2 washers, but you need them) Installation time if you are handy with tools is about 45 minutes/hub.

Thanks Jeff

How much are the warn Manuals?

Ryan

If I remember correctly, I think I paid about 180 for the hubs and the 'adapter kit'
