OK its time to confess my sins.
I mess with my truck soo much that sometimes I will forget to make sure the hood is latched. I have now had it fly up 3 times. Dee dee dee...... Fortunately each time I was driving by myself and was able to recover without a major accident. (Just some hood damage) It adds character to my ol girl.

Has anybody else had this happen?

Has anybody installed hood pins on there truck?

If so can you post a pic. :salute:

No need for hood pins, just close the damn thing! :) Does your EX have a hood light? Maybe wire a hood warning light to it.

Had the hood blow up at highway speed on my wife's old mustang ('89 4 banger) back about 10 years ago. Surprising and equally embarassing. I jumed out, pulled the hood off of the roof, slammed it shut a couple times and she drove it for another year or so.

I almost did it once, I had popped it to check the oil or something but then I got distracted and never actually opened it. I was driving at about 40mph and it started to lift up, but the safety kept it down. Thank goodness it's got a working safety latch.

No safety, mawrazen?

Had the hood come up on a '56 Ford back in the day ( the good old 60's ).

Definitely a britches clean out moment.

Had the Hood on my 1972 Celica come open on the freeway one time. Thankfully it was front hinged hood so no damage. But defiantly got my attention tho.

I've got an idea for you....

Have a small electric charge running to the pins that hold the hood in. Then, have the peg they go in the ground. Then, hook it up to a light in the truck, so that connected=no light, and not connected=light on.

That's one way I can think of to make a warning light for when the pins aren't in.

my 1966 mustang had just been totalled in a car accident, so I got a new paintjob up front ans some ghost flames. drove it for a few weeks and then had to drive across ND for X-mas. 90 miles from home the hood popped up 3 inches and caught on the safety hooks, thank god. I almost shat, yes. I just shut it and all was well, until about 2 years later I was late for work because I stayed overnight at the GF's 90 miles away from work. speeding down the interstate the dang thing popped 3 more times. after work I installed the hood pins and that's that. a buddy completely lost the hood of his 66 because it literally ripped off. and my sisters 66 popped the same way mine did. she didn't want hood pins so we manufactured another catch.

When I was about 16 years old we went on a family trip. My older brother checked the oil on the family car, a 1957 Chrysler wagon, with 392 Hemi, and had not latched it properly. It flew up at 70 on the freeway and my Dad managed to pull it over safely. After tying it down with rope we continued on.
After the trip he took it to the local Dodge dealer for a new hood, and while removing it they crashed it through the windshield and ended up having to replace that too.

hood pins have their place, this is not it.

my hood is 4 pin removable. I forgot to put in 3 of the pins when I had a dead battery, I saw the entire thing start to float and had to slow down and get off the road, I had this vision of my hood floating off my truck and getting smashed in traffic.

i had just started to work on my navajo and took the hood off , had it just sitting on the fenders and latches , but the hood latched ! so i took it for a ride , got up to about 40 and stomped on it and at about 65-70 the hood flew off and landed on the paved road , it was twisted and all scratched up , but i put it back on !! lol

Brilliant!

No need for hood pins, just close the damn thing! :) Does your EX have a hood light? Maybe wire a hood warning light to it.

I love the idea! Obviously I need to check the safety catch also.

Last month the family & I were going on vacation for the weekend, just got up to speed about a 1/4 mile down the road and the hood of our 2002 venture flew up and smashed the S**t out of the windsheild and twisted the hood all to He11. Scared the S**T out of us. Luckly the local windshild repair company had a windsheild in stock and local junk yard had a hood. 325 for the windsheild 75 for the hood, and 8 hours later we were back on the road. But now we have a blue Chev Venture with a white Pontiac hood.

Not a Ford but it happened to a friend

He drives the "C" word. Well going down a long road he decided to top out, well around 80 we all saw a flash of white. "Was that paper?" I started laughing i knew what it was.
The hood is 2 pieces and they seperated. The bottom part has notches, the hood was latched but not shut +80mph hood is gone! We had to back track once he realized that you could see 60% of the engine! Was very funny!
