I preface this being I am not a mechanic - Hopefully you guys are much better with this and can help me out. My apologies if this isn't in the right place/if it's been covered and I missed it.

Over the past week, there has been an intermittent hum coming from my glove box when I first start my truck - It also tends to do this when I'm changing the heating/cooling controls. I first thought it was maybe the blend door actuator, but the noise isn't that loud.

I dropped my glove box this AM and recreated the sound, which can be heard a little bit after 40 seconds in the attached video. The noise doesn't seem to be coming from the actuator.

My hope is I can fix this myself - Anyone have this happen?

Video is below - thanks for your advice.

Welcome to the Forum.
Sort of sound like a small electric motor to me. Does make the same noise when you just switch to accessory mode without starting the vehicle?
Please add the trim level (Base, XLT, etc.) to your profile so it show in the margin. Thanks.

Peter

Hi Peter - Thanks, and yes, it does make that same noise in accessory mode.

How about with Climate turned off?

Just checked it out, it happens even with the climate off. Manuevering my hand in there while turning on and off, it's the black mechanism with the bolt where the vibration seems to be coming from. Not sure what that is/if I can even get to it if I drop the rest of the glove box.

That's the part I was thinking of when I mentioned "electric motor". Not sure if that is the actuator motor or not. Maybe it shows on Fordparts.com or on the following site;http://parts.autonationfordwhitebea...12/ford/explorer/base-trim/3-5l-v6-gas-engine
