- 2011 XLT
Hi all. I'm new here and had to share...
So, my wife and I got talking about buying a canoe and the conversation turned to how I would carry it on my Dodge Caliber. The caliber, being 4 years old, is a decent car and all, but I've been wanting something bigger and nicer. Well, the next thing I know my wife is egging me on about taking some test drives - honest, it's all her fault - and I start looking. The first vehicle I test? A 2011 XLT. I was smitten. I mean, serious man crush. But, keeping my options open, I test drove two Durangos, a Journey, and a Traverse. The imports are ugly and over priced to me so I didn't even bother testing them. Now, I admit, the Durango is pretty sexy but it just didn't compare to the Explorer in my book. Just to make sure, I went and test drove another XLT. Yup. Hooked. And another problem - the second one I drove had the moonroof. I would've never considered a moonroof, now I have to have one. It's like automotive ******. MyFord Touch? well, I have a picture of the dash for my laptop's wallpaper, if that's saying anything.
Fred, my Ford dealer and new best friend, spent 2 hours with me looking up '11 Explorers in the northeast. We looked for something close to what I wanted, but no go. So, I ordered one: XLT in sterling gray with med. light stone interior, rapid spec 202A, moonroof, tow package, nav system, cross bars and splash guards.
6-10 weeks. I have to wait 6-10 weeks. It's like getting a bicycle for Christmas but not being able to ride it until the snow melts in the spring. Now, I'm forced to look for every youtube vid I can find. I've been reading every online resource for MyFord Touch/Sync systems. I've even been loading music on a thumb drive that I plan to dedicate to the Explorer so I won't need to bother bringing my ipod. And yes, I just joined an Explorer forum
So, after all the vids and such, I've killed 1 week. 5-9 weeks to go. If I have Fred add the remote starter, I wonder if it will delay production more....
