See my previous rants and raves about my Magnaflow catbacks....

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...rpage=25&highlight=boo magnaflow&pagenumber=2

Its IN>>> ITS FREAKING IN AND IT WORKS!!!! No more earsplitting/headache causing resonance... just sweet DEEP tone...

Here's how it came about.. I call back the shop that puts it on, set up an appointment (this is like trial number 5 now), show up at the given time and there's a handwritten sign on the door saying "Closed due to family emergency" (complete lie ~ I called pretending to be someone else an hour later) but all of the lights were on and the shop radio was playing. F*CK you Radford Muffler... thanks alot! The guy didn't even have the guts to tell me that he couldn't work on my truck...

Anyway, I randomly stop by another shop on the way back, and the guy says he can fix it without even looking at it ~ knew exactly what it needed!

Went by the shop today, and he was able to massage a full length resonator (actual resonator with the fins/tabs on the inside) onto my catbacks. These guys are probably the coolest mechanics i've ever met. they have a new lifetime customer!

Anyway, before I become a rambling idiot... I just want to retract my previous statement.

I LOVE MY MAGNAFLOW... DEEP, POWERFUL sound, good power, and NO MORE RESONANCE!!!!!!

WOOOO HOOOOOO

(total investment in 2.5" catbacks + resonator + labor >> $190)

Hokiebert,
You have the exact setup I want. Is the muffler on your sohc single-in, single-out or dual-in, single-out? I have a 98 and it is dual-in, single-out, but I believe they changed it a year or two later.

I was thinking about maybe just replacing the muffler, and leaving the pipe stock. That way I wouldn't need to mess with the resonator, and it would be cheaper. Would there be any disadvantages with this?

My truck has a dual in and single out. I guess in hindsite, going with a 2.5" over the 2.25-2" probably didn't gain me too much power since the pipe on the Sports is so short. But whatever, I have 2.5" out now...

You could replace just the muffler ~ any good shop could do this.

Boy do I love the DEEEEEEP sound now though... hehe... Its so nice to finally have this taken care of!

Congrats Hokie! I told you you'd love it once you had the resonator on there!

Now just imagine how mine sounds :D

Sounds like I am going to get a resonator put in monday! You were my test dummie before I did it, becuase you and I are running the exact same everything. Great... now I'm gonna be revving it everywhere I go. Thanks for being a good gunnie pig, and congrats.
I think this will shut my friends up that say my car sounds ricey. :)

Yeah, it definately kills any buzz... just a DEEEEEEP MELLOW but powerful tone... God I love it!

Hehe... Someone just asked if my truck had a V8 ~ it made my day!

Good luck nweibley... it took me about 10 shops before I found one that could put it on... But shoot, the guys were awesome, the service was great, and the install was pretty good considering he definately had to massage it in there! Oh, and it cost me $53 with parts (19.99) and labor.

So do you think the stock resonator would be good enough to get rid of any buzz?

The stock resonator is probably very restrictive, better to go with an aftermarket one if you're already getting a new tailpipe.

Alec (and Hokie), when I go to inquire monday about getting a resonator installed... what should I be looking for? Are they generally about a foot long? Should this be a standard round body resonator like Ford's, or would they look like the flowmaster one.
I am also guessing they add a little restriction, but hey, the magnaflow is basically straight thru, so it little more probably wont kill me.
I know this is something the shop will know, but Hokie (or Alec), where did they fit yours in? Directly after the muffler? Thanks guys!

Yup, mine is probably about a foot long. It's a cylinder not much larger than the pipe diameter. Most don't cause much restriction, actually they can increase flow velocity. You're gonna want it after the muffler. Mine is installed right after the muffler at an up angle as the tailpipe goes over the axle.

What he said ^^^^ ;)... Drove Adry around tonight... shes so happy now.. I could see her smiling with her better sound and fresh coat of mud (Yes, I kiss my truck goodnight;))
