So this weekend in the midwest we got snow. And I mean snow. Down here at ISU it snowed at least 5 inches, and so me and my friends decided to go out and play tonight.

Upon driving down a frontage road to the back of the local Wal-Mart, I was just trying out 4WD since I had never seen this much snow before. Little to my knowledge, the frontage road curved, and I did not. I proceeded to sink about 6-8 inches into the soft snow (all the way up to the running boards). I panicked and hit the brakes, and stopped about halfway into the snow. I put it in reverse to back out, and I didnt know that my rear driver tire was off the road too, and sank kinda sideways into the snow more. F**k! So now I'm stuck and not going anywhere.... my tires just sat and spun in the snow. I was about to call the tow truck to pull my dumbass out, and I thought "I'll give it one more try" and started to rock back and forth a bit, and got some momentum, more and more rocking, had to try and turn a bit here and there (fence in front of me) and by this time I was spitting mud everywhere too cause I was so far in.... after about 10 minutes of rocking/spinning/etc I got out! I was so proud of my Ex. All my friends were VERY impressed.... we went back around to Wal-Mart and got a camera and took pics of the ruts.... pics to come soon.

Sounds like fun! You never tried low range?

if you drove out, it wasnt stuck.... being stuck means you had to modify the surronding ground, or had to get strapped out :)

Crankcase: Low range would not engage for some odd reason.... ?

Modification... I was ALMOST stuck!!!! LOL :D

i slid off into a ditch on a mud covered road once....had to be pulled out by a late model chevy :( im sure a few people remember that one :) LOL very very dumb to go offroading on your own......i found out the hardway

We've got 8 inches on the ground here in the mts of VA and are expecting 10-12 more before monday afternoon! They have already cancelled classes for tomorrow as well. Went out last night and drove the Ex around in the snow, she crushed it. There were so many hondas and nissans trying to make it up the icy hills, some actually started sliding backwards! The Ex had no problems at all....

In order for Low Range to be engaged, the truck has to be in neutral, and already be in 4x4. If you already knew that, then just disregard this!
I am telling you that because I had had my Ex for awhile and could never get Low Range to work. Then one day I was reading the Owners Manual and found out why:D

i used to engage my low range in my 96x before without being in neutral. just being stopped, the low range should engage.. but then again..i didnt read my manual. but you do also have the 1st gen X., might be different

good job!

I don't get it I mean that really doesn't look deep enough to get hung up in. I mean my X was plowing through a foot and a half of snow last storm with no trouble. Musta just been in at a funny angle and getting bad tire contact or something.

it also depends on what type of snow it is,, there is the soft fluffy kind and hard packed kind.. the soft fluffy one is the harder one to get around in, your tires cant grip.

It was about 9 inches or so in the deep spots. But like jssong said, it was also the damp, kinda loose snow as well. Really hard for me to get out of. If you look in the first pic to the right you can see how far in my driver's side was toward the end too.....
