recently acquired a 94' explorer. Got a great deal on this vehicle. There where obviously many little problem with the vehicle. But nothing to worry about, everything can be repaired. This truck running great, but with the recent weather here I noticed that the 4 wheel high and low do not light up and do not engage . Only have my back wheels. I believe all my fuses are good. What is my next step towards four wheel freedom??

Do you hear clicking noises from the inside of the truck when you hold down 4-hi button? should come from the back drivers inside panel.

I read the write up on the troubleshooting and its excellent, but I had a problem on my 1990 Bronco II where the plug would loosen on the back of the switch and no 4x4 activation. The clip seemed loose and would let the wires back off just enough to kill the connection. Same dash switch is on the Explorer. On the BII, I ended up zip tying around the plug to hold the clip tighter. Also, check fuses to make sure there is power to the system.

Most commonly the shift motor stop bushing deteriorates and needs to be replaced. It is an easy fix and the parts to fix it are usually under a dollar.
