I am betting it is the sub itself. The stuff isnt that hard to change out, but you have to remove all of the rear panels on that side of the truck...and pull up the capret.

I have two Rockford 12 inch subs in my truck blew both the magnets off the sub and the still made some noise not much but some I would start looking at the wiring or the amp first

Unless you have had a wire come loose the sub would make noise still if it blew. The amp might have gone bad, in either case you would be looking at around $100.

The subs usually burn out the coil when they go, hence no noise at all.

I have never heard of the coil going out on a sub before, I have always known them to "blow up". They make a scratch noise when you push on them.

He is right. If the coil works too hard it gets hot. Too hot and it will burn out kind of like a light bulb. Which, yes, will give you the scratching noise when you push on it, but it depends on how bad the coil burned as to whether or not it will make noise. Best bet, check the wiring and smell the amp. If its not either of those, look at the sub. I'm gonna bet on the sub.
