I just bought a preamp, need help hooking up...

I have a 1998 ford explorer with premium audio, currently i have 2 amps , and 4 12"s hooked up, i went and bought the BOSS preamp to control the subwoofer levels, when i took it out of the box it had 3 connectors,
1.Ground 2.+12 volt DC ( this wire had a fuse) 3. Remote
i know where the remote goes, but where should i hook up the +12 and the ground... i cant get this thing to work!! Please help

Equalizer? Ground to the body, power to the battery, just like your amps.

yeah i know that but the battery cable 12+ should it be bridged from lets say amps?? or the 4 gauge wire going through from battery? as im told theres a 12v running into the reciver but i cant find it , or dont know what cable it is

I'm not sure what fusing it requires but I'd run it straight to the battery, don't feed off another power wire.

It didn't come with a manual? The wire with the fuse is probably the power wire, run it to the battery.

the cable brings a fuse already , so how should i do this, cut off a little bit from the 4 gauge running to the amps?

I wouldn't tap into the amp wire, just takes power away from the amp. You should cut the fuse, get some wire of the same gauge, and run it to the battery. Attach the fuse at the battery.

r u sure? all this for an equalizer? the 3 cables arnt thicker than a normal headphone cable......... what about the stereos own power cable, the big orange one..... and where near the dash can i drill a ground cable too.

What size is the fuse? I run anything with a seperate fuse straight to the battery. I also don't use factory grounds for stereo components, and only use one ground per bolt. You can tap into another ground if you wanted. You won't harm anything tapping the power wire into another power wire, it's just something I wouldn't do. Try tapping into the stereo power wire, with the fuse. If it works to your liking then leave it that way.

o and the fuse is tiny it says 1FA 250volt... but the cable inside looks like a hair strand lol

Dude just wire it to your head unit power line.

Is your head unit stock or aftermarket? If its stock, I can look up the color code and specify which wire brings voltage to the unit. I was suggesting that you could check the power consumption on your EQ vs. the output of the power antenna lead from your aftermarket head unit. Ive seen this done many times with success. Anyone else have an opinion on this method?
