1998 4ltr petrol
Hi all I am new here hope you can help. I just bought a 1998 Ford Explorer 4 ltr petrol. Very nice motor runs like a dream but the heater will not turn down to cold. At first there was no heat, when I twisted the control knob on to cold it came hot now will only blast out hot air. I got round this today by just putting on the a/c but when stuck in traffic the temp guage shot up so I had to open all windows and put heating on full to get some heat away. When driving normal all is well but I need to know which part is faulty. Thanks for looking. Oldiejoe.

I've noticed that usually the blend door motor gets stuck in one position, (hot or cold), usually because the plastic around the drive breaks. At least on Ford Windstars. If thats the case, you may have to dissasemble much of the under-dash area to expose the motor and change it. Or flip the door over and sink some drywall screws in to hold it up untill winter comes and you want heat back ;)

Thank you will have a root tomorrow. Regards Joe.

Definitely the blend door or your knob is not actually turning the metal piece behind it.

DO a search for "blend door" or just refer to the "sticky" at the top of this forum re blend door.

Thats what I would guess too, blend door, but you might wanna check the PSI of your freon...

Buy the gauge from Murrays...like 12$, then the cans of FREON are like 7$...gauge lasts forever, use on any car/truck
