Ok heres my question
I am in the stage of building my box for my 12inch audiobahn and amp racks....

can you mount them on them like this... the line representing the box and the A being the amp.

this would be a side view
|A

Parellel on the box wall......i have 2 stinger fans that i will be putting just above each amp...
i have heard that its bad for htem to be mounted like that...
should i be ok??
don't want them getting too hot.

thanks,
ryan

it'll be ok as long as you leave enough airspace around the amp.

ok , then it shouldn't be a problem

hey leejen. you said audiobahn underrates their amplifers...then what would you choose to run one 12 rated at 700rms

1. an audiobahn amp rated at 420w @ 4 ohms
or
2. an audiobahn amp rated at 560w @ 4 ohms

being they are underrated, and taking in account that i will wire it down to 2 ohms.
price isnt' a big factor. there is only like a $20 difference

thanks!
ryan

you dont want to overdrive the amp, so make sure it is stable to 2 ohms mono. if it is, then both of those amps will be way to powerful for that sub. if it is rated at 420@4 ohms, it'll probably be about double that @ 2 ohms (840, but remember that's at 12.5 volts. in your explorer, it'll most likely be over 1000 watts rms).

if so could i go with the one that is 420 @ 4 ohms and keep the level on it down???

i need to buy 1 of these audiobahn amps while they are at such a great price.

i have an audiobahn amp that is rated at 600 watts rms @1 ohm. in my explorer it put out 1008 watts rms (i had it tested when i first installed it a year ago), and that was with the gain all the way down. i never turned up the gain at all. it's great because my amp never even gets warm (which makes it more efficient as heat lowers ouput power). the amp i'm talking about is the A275HC with a ACAP2 24 volt (30 surge) capacitor.

if you must get one of those two amps to power your sub, then definately get the lower rated one.

nice, very cool!

since they put out more power than they state I am thinking one rated at 280x1@ 4ohms would probably do..

what kind of power do you see that giving for real??

...like 650-700watts?

i don't want to buy an amp that puts out power that i won't use.

i appericate your help

not sure if it matters but these are the class A/B series audiobahn amps....

a class A/B amp is typically not 2 ohm mono stable. you coul probably do it, but there are no guarantees. that's a lot of stress on the amp. that's why they make high current amps. they are built and tested to handle low impedence loads. you could buy a high current amp, hook up your sub at 2 ohm mono. then when you have more $$ and want to upgrade, buy another of the same sub and wire them in parallel @ 1 ohm mono. then you'll have twice the output power without overdriving your amp.

ok
i made a mistake.
the amp that i said that was 420@4 ohms was a mono RMS reading

if i were to take that amp and wire the sub @ 4 ohms it the amp would put out a more than 420 right? and probably take me to the 700 i need to be at for the sub?

how are you going to wire the subwoofer at 4 ohms mono? if it has dual 4 ohm voice coils, it can only be wired as 2 or 8 ohm mono...

oh, i forgot to also add in my other post that class D amps are also usually stable to 1 ohm mono.

i see
hmmm that limits my options then

damn.

what to do now

what bout this

the high current amp that i can afford is 280 x1 @1ohm rms..

i know if i raise it to 2 ohms the power will drop

with the 12.5v system do you think i could get this to work

my only other option is the one you have. and that is a little out of my price range...but i could get it if its the only option left to get my one 12 to bang like hell....which is what i am shooting for if you havent noticed.

i dont think that will be enough power for it to really hit hard. that's what sucks about dual 4 ohm voice coils. the amps i recommend for your sub are the Audiobahn A2150HCX, MTX Thunder 6500D, RF power bd500.1, or the Audiobahn A8001D. what's your price range?

i would like to stay in the 225 range..
.i can go to 275 but would like to stay away from that if i can.

any suggestions in the 225 range

forget that one. it's too powerful. i think the a 275HCX will do fine, but the A8001D will be better.

do you know where i can find that amp for a great price?
