I need help with the security system in my 96 Ranger.

I have a 1996 ranger that the parking lights stay on if the allarm system is set off. The system sets off for no reason at all too. Every third or fourth time the system activates I cannot get it to reset and the parking lights stay on. I have been diconnecting the battery terminal to keep it from draining.

I don't think there was a factory alarm available in a '96 Ranger, so it's an aftermarket unit. Any make or model number you can find? If you don't need the alarm, remove it or disable it. Aftermarket alarms that flash the lights usually have an on board relay which may be wearing out.

it has a harness wired directly into the alarm and it has a 1 800 ford key placard on the component box that the harness ties into the box is approximately 3 x 5

Unplug the harness?

I tried that, but the ignition, lights and the whole mess is wired thru it in the same nest of wires. It acts as a pass thru I assume
