i live in jersey, are there any places that i could go to talk to someone that could help me out w. things and install everything.

haha, if you didnt allready geuss im pretty much a kook when it comes to this stuff but i want to learn and you gotta start some where.

i want a baddass truck. i was lookin to spend anywhere from 1500 to 2k on the first phase of my mods. focussing on the lifts and tires.

does anyone have any suggestions on what to get??

Welcome to the site. I see weve got another one from Jersey. I dont know anything about 1st gen exploreres; mines a second gen but if you use the search feature you can probly find your answer. Is your truck 4x4 or 4x2? Cause that will also matter on what lift you can do to your truck. I dont know of any places around jersey accept road runners in avanel. They do good work there. But your best bet and cheapest is to find someone from NJ that has some time on their hands, get together with some beer and lift it yourselves. Its fun.. You'll Learn some things along the way.

i dont know if your truck comes with torsion bars, those are 2 long bars underneith the truck that the factory uses to level the frount of your truck out with. If it does, being a 4x4 you dont want to crank those up more than 2inches due to stress on your cv boots. Thats a free 2 inches of lift. Next step you can add Warrior shackles. The part number for these is WAR-153. You can purchase these from www.desertrat.com or www.4wheelparts.com . You can also do AAL (add a leaf) That will give you about another 1/4 in the back. They make different sizes for different hight. Thats about all i know about your truck. Im sure other guys will tune in that can talk to you about coils and stuff like that. I dont know about that stuff for your truck. My sudgestion is look around the board. Use the search button. It will get you the fastest information. There is plenty on this board.. Good Luck.

AH! another slob from the garbage state!! :p :D welcome to the site. Use the Search feature and you will find lots of info on lifts for your truck. 91-94 explorers and navajos do not have torsion bars they have a twin traction beam setup with coil springs. there are a couple of suspension lifts made for your truck from companys like james duff, rancho, superlift, trailmaster etc. I bought my 97 sport with 95k miles on it and it's got 125k on it now and it's been lifted since i bought it over a year go. unfortunantly i don't know of any 4wd shops around south jersey that will do lifts and such. here's a good thread on lift and max tire sizes for your truck. He knows more than me about your truck. I thought they had Torsion Bars. Owell. I warned you i didnt know much. Good Luck again.

alright i did some searching.

i think the 1st thing that i want to do is do a 6" susp lift.

i was checkin out the skyjacker site and looked at some lift kits but they only had the 6" for 2wd.

then i was lookin around this site some more and there was someone else that was looking to do a 6" susp lift. and that the kit was only for the front end. he also talked about doing something to the back end, somthing about moving the axle or somthing, i didnt really understand. whats the deal w/ that?

i figure i would do that lift now before its frickin freezin outside. then i wanted to get some 35's. i like the pro comp x's.

then when it gets warmer do a body lift

If you're going with the 6" lift dont bother with a body lift if you're gonna be running 35s. a body lift isnt really going to help you any. It's gonna raise your center of gravity making the truck more tippy. The type of lift they where probably talking in the rear is SOA or spring over axle. your leaf springs right now go underneath the axle tube, this mod allow you to put the springs on top of the axle tube giving you 5.5" of lift and more clearance under the axle.

yea thats what they were talking about.

umm, haha, i cant believe im such a kook, but do you/or anybody know what i need to get for this part?

All you need is new axle perches to weld to the top of the axle tube, And new shock mounts. do a search for SOA

alright,

so when i do the soa, i will get 5-6 inches of lift from the stock leaf springs. lets say i get more leaf springs, in theory i would get more lift in back. am i correct on that?? b/c if the fronts been lifted 6" would i want the back a little higher anyway

do i need to get new shocks aswell?

i

also wont i need to get some type of new wires or lines?? i.e. brake lines etc. etc.

ur gonna wanna replace the stock shocks, there basicaly worthless with so man miles onit but ive seen ppl mouth the shock mount a certain way and not have to replce shocks, ur going need brakeslines and possible a new drive shaft becuase of the angle but only sometimes, ur going ot have to regear to at least 4:10+ to run 35's and i woul;d reomend doing a body lift because ull have to some major trimming trying to fit 35s, probaly just need 1 or 2, i started out with the inexpensive 3in BL just to start me off and i should be able to clear 35s or 36s pretty good when i do the SOA, ull have to ethier get the Superlift 5.5, or the Skyjacker 6in for the front, superlift makes a soa kit or u can just buy the mounts .....use the search button it does wonders
