I took out the center console in my 1999 Ford explorer will my heater still work?

My friend keeps telling me that I need a center console in my 1999 Ford explorer or my heater/ac won't work. I can't find anywhere on the internet if that's true or not so is there any car heads out there that can help me

The center console has a duct and a fan that “heats” the rear passengers in the truck. Without the center console, this system will not work. In my opinion, this rear heat system is just fancy, and removal should not be a problem.

The front dash heater system should still work.

You can remove it nothing will happen to the ac or heater

I had a friend who was a mail carrier and he only drove v8 explorers. First thing to go when he got one was the center console because he drove the thing front the passenger seat! He put a tractor knob on the steering wheel and removed the console.

Truck doesn’t care if the rear ac duct and heater fan is there. The other wires in the big square plug are for the rear stereo controls, again no biggie

Agreed with @410Fortune and @Mr. Alligator truck doesn't know if it has a console or not.

Ohmygod thank you so much! I don't plan on having back seat passengers, just got this ford for free and the center console was so moldy and gross and we ripped it out and I don't want to get a new one so hell yeah if my front heaters work I'm good!

Just to be clear, there is only a duct that carries heat & a/c to the rear of the console. There is a rear fan, but there isn't a separate or additional heater or a/c unit for the rear.
