I have a 97 Explorer Sport. I want to get better output from its stock fog lights. Has anyone repleaced these with something that fits in the existing location?

Have you considered changing bulbs and not the actual light assembly?

I have 97 year as well and I know those lenses have seen better days. No amount of light will shine through with those fogged up/faded lenses. Just get yourself an aftermarket ones with 100 watt (make sure you use relays). Get slightly bigger size and make it fit under there. Cut the plastic bumper if you need too.

Thanks gang.

Have any of you had good experience with swapping bulbs or swapping complete housings? Any recommendations?

I have just order a Westin Safari Bar to add a couple of PIAA 520 fog lights, but I sure would like the OEM light or location to put out some decent light. I am hoping to wire both the PIAAs and the OEM (or new lights) to the same switch. Any recommendations, hints, tips? I really would hate to be out there in "thick pea soup" and have a dead Explorer or worse being on fire and lighting the way for others.

Are you going to use the "Ion Crystal" (yellow) type lights? If so then the PIAA 1500 fogs are a good choice for the stock location.
You can wire both sets of lights to come on with the factory switch and by doing the relay mod (taxmans') they will come on and stay on any time the key is on.
