after reading many QUALITY posts here, I am confident that I am going to replace the IAC valve myself, and save over $150. Now I just need a place to buy one from? Anyone know? 2000 Explorer XLS.

Thanks

I prefer Ford OEM parts, but you can get an IAC at any auto parts store.

Good luck ...

What would I find that under? When I do a search, nothing comes up.

I know that NAPA and Auto Value can get them but they're not Ford OEM. I bet Crappy Tire will also get it for you. I was a bit put off by the prices all these places wanted for my old SOHC equipped Explorer (you probably have OHV engine as most XLS come with it). Ford wanted around $100 CAD as did these other places. I recently scored some aftermarket IAC valves for my 5.0 V8 equipped Explorer for around $30 CAD via eBay. US suppliers. Paid no GST or handling via the US Postal Service. I put a new one on my Ex and now have one in reserve.

I phoned the 'stealership', and talked to parts guy. He said it would cost 68.38 + tax. I thought that was reasonable. So then I wanted to see what the price was to install. So they transfered me to serive. They wanted 70 for it. I just laughed and got sent back to parts. Different guy this time, went throught the whole thing again, and he says "alright sir, its going to cost 134.76 + tax"? WTF, so i told him the other guy quoted me at the 68 price. And he is selling it to me at that price!

What you think? Good price??

That price is definitely pretty good.. I just paid about the same shipped from rockauto.com. Hopefully it will solve your problem.

I bought one from Autozone last night and installed it in their parking lot, using the light from the store front to navigate. It is that easy. I did look a little funny, tho.....a couple of big, buff guys with their hoods up fixing their truck and little white girl me doing the same right next to them! I will be posting the full story to my explorer for some advice in a day or so.........

Let me know how it turns out. When I replaced my IAC with one from "The Zone", my idle never really returned to normal.....
Congrats on the DIY azthermal1! We've all done the "replacement in the parking lot" think at AutoZone. Maybe that's why they have the signs "No replacing parts in our lot." Yeah, right.....

Great price from what I saw when I called around. Remember folks, this is Canada. We get gouged worse than in the US!

Install shouldn't cost anything. 5 minute job...TOPS.

azthermal1,
Way to go! I showed my 18YO daughter and had her replace the DPFE sensor the other day. Hopefully it will solve the stalling she's been having on her Explorer.

Well I bought the IAC from the shop. I installed it, and now it seems like the truck is 'bucking'. The whistling sound is gone, but its shakey. Once I replaced it, I let it run for about 10 mins, and then the check engine light came on?? Should I put the other back on?

Did you reset the computer by disconnecting the battery?

No i didnt. Should I do that now? I was also reading about cleaning the MAF?

How do I clean the MAF. Tried looking on here, to no prevail. I am vehicle illeterate!

There are many threads on the topic, some with photos. I'm surprised you can't find any. I came across many when I cleaned mine. It's another dead easy maintenance item. Use "clean MAF" or "clean MAS" as your search terms and you'll find lots of info.
