I am trying to buy a 5 speed trans. A seller has a trans he says came out of a ranger but thats all he knows.
It has a white tag with F57A FA C258492 and a bar code.

manual or auto?

edit: i know this doesnt help in the slightest, but i remembrr one of the toyo kyogo ranger trans had the f57a starting. but that doesnt help! 🤣

Manual

Edit to add. I am trying to get a manual trans to go on a 98 4.0 awd in place of the auto trans

How much is the seller asking for it?

98 4.0 uses a 5r55e automatic

You want a m5od-r1 5 speed from a 98-11 ranger or 02-04 sport or sport trac

Make sure you get a 4wd version so it can take a transfer case

You really need to research the 5 speed conversion there is a lot to know

what 410 said!!! imo if it is the toyo koygo unit, those were behind the 2.9s iirc. provavly not strong enough for the 4.0. @410Fortune were those behind tho 2.9 v6s? feel like they were

The TK5 was trash, they didn't hold up well behind the 2.9.

The 2.8 and 2.9 trucks came with a toyo kogo a Mitsubishi or a Mazda
The Mazda is the only good one and it got better over the years
The 98+ version is the one you want
Some of them behind the sohc engine had some major internal upgrades to handle the sohc power vs the earlier versions

As discussed here many times I always use the sohc clutch with these ohv engines

Thanks for the replies. I will pass on that trans and look for the better one.

what year 4.0? makes a big difference, a 1990 4.0 5 speed is not as good as say a 98 4.0 5 speed
and how many miles?

Any other way to determin exactly what trans this is. The shifter maker has it listed as the m5od while the tk5 parts list refers to it. I have found no other references that list the F57A-FA

The TK5 has a removable bellhousing, the M5OD does not.
