99 ford explorer 5.0l
I have a 01 explorer that has been sitting for about a year now cause my son got diabetes and I have not time to rebuild it ......Well I got a awesome deal on a 98 explorer that runs .. My question is what do I grab off the 01 explorer before I junk it ?? The trans works in 01 explorer but it slips real bad sometimes and the rest of the specs are the same between the two explorer so most parts will work ..

Thanks
Jason SR

I would grab the motor and any other drivetrain parts you can store. Rear hatch handle assembly, maybe even the whole hatch. Any of the expensive sensors as well. The list could go on and on.

The fuel system will be different between the 2, also the wiring and PCM

So, at this point you need to decide which one you are saving and go from there--really.

your best bet (if you have the room) would be to keep the whole truck for spares. i scrapped one last spring and since then there have been a bunch of parts i've had to find/buy that i could have taken off the dead one. i've also sold a bunch of spare parts. you never know what you're gonna be needing in the future. you can always scrap the hulk for $350 or so it when your done with it.

My new one I got is a 98 Explorer XLT 4.0l SOHC 2wd with 144,000 that runs all for $600... My 01 explorer needs a new tranny ,front drive shaft ,passenger side head light and mount, fuel line with quick connects, tires ,u-joints... I can only keep one truck and I am going to keep the 98 explorer since it's ready to go and I don't have the time to rebuild 01 explorer even though I just got a low mileage motor for cheap but I guess it can be stored for the 98 ( I am not sure if's it the same block)... I will post up sometime what for sale or if someone needs something before it goes to the junk yard ...
