I have looked thru some threads about cleaning the IAC and I can't find what people are using to clean it. So...whats everyone use to clean the IAC?

Hmmm

I read on another posting that people are using simple "Electrical Contact" cleaner to get it degunked... the kind that leaves no residue behind as to not impeed the reading.

Are there any particular things to be weary of when cleaning the IAC with the electric contact cleaners? I am going to be cleaning (received a Check Engine code) and I don't want to damage anything.

I used brake cleaning fluid and allowed the valve plenty of time to dry. It didn't do the trick for me, because the problem wasn't IAC-valve related in the end, but it also didn't damage anything.

Take it off, spray it good inside with the electrical contact cleaner, and start gently scraping all the gunk out of it. I had a lot of carbon buildup in mine. Inside of it, it's purely mechanical. There's a couple of rubber boots covering the pistons that move up and down. Just get all the crap out of it and hopefully it clears your code.

My '04 4.0 OHC seems to have NO IAC valve. What's up with this, and if I'm right, when did they eliminate it?

I can see that by driving the throttle plate with a motor, instead of accelerator-pedal cable, (drive-by-wire), allows PCM to open throttle very slightly for idle purposes, thereby making IAC redundant? imp

for 04 explorer the IAC was eliminate, the TPS now controls the throttle. (drive-by-wire)
