Had a bearing roar coming from the front of my Ex now for about 2 weeks. This morning, pulled the belt to check the different pulleys fearing the worst, an Alt. bearing. To my good fortune, it was the lower idler pulley bearing. CHEAP FIX..Called AutoZone, had in stock, $14.99...10 minutes to change and I'm fixed..It seems that Ford FINALLY made an interchangable part, this is the same replacement part used on the tension pulley...
Hope it helps..Mdrut

Glad to hear it! We need to luck out once in awhile.

What type of noise did you have? I have a low frequency groan that sounds like PS pump, but I've replaced it. It's been an expensive lesson so far.

???

Thanks

It was a bearing roar...It is easy to check, just remove the belt, and reach down and turn it..If there is any play, or "grinding" to it, it is bad. Also check the tension pulley..Good Luck

My tensioner has subtle play, but no roughness. Idler pulley is tight.

My belt is tigher than tight. It's an 865K6 and I have to pull the tensioner to it's stop in order to get the belt on.
