I just got a really nice 99 merc monti Clean runs great low milage and I like it. Fully loaded. Now the problem.
I pulled the ignition swith because it was very hard to turn and thought it may be bad. But the auto guy looked at it and said it was okay and the problem (he worked for a ford dealership) is in the colum where a slide goes back and forth triggered by the key assembly. You can hold the key all the way forward and it will not return to the run postion. It takes strength to get it to go the key removes spot on the tumbler. I have the whell pulled and all the extras but can not see to figure out just how to remove the slide bar and check to see for damage. I have cleaned it and added a bit of lub and still it is hard to turn.
