How difficult is it to change my ignition switch? My key is so loose that I can stall my x just by shifting from park to drive...

I've found some switches for $20 or less, just not sure how big the job is. YES, I did a search before asking my question!

Not a big job, only took about 10 minutes to replace. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the bottom of the steering column and move the upper and lower covers (if not totally, at least out of the way). Got my lock cylinder at Auto Zone for less than 15.00.

I needed to take the steering wheel off to replace mine. Then took forever to find the little pin switch hole to release the switch. So it took me a few days cause I had to find a puller. Once you do it once it will be cake if you need to do it again, Remove the upper & lower column covers, remove wheel & you can access it.
I would get a new one at Ford. They will match the #'s on it & then cut you keys on the new one so the new keys will also open your doors & hatch. No need for 2 different keys.

I did mine in the parking lot with a screwdriver and a paperclip. Took about 10 mins. Jason why did you have to pull your wheel. You should have been able to reach everything from the underside of the column.

do a search for my user name and ign switch.... i have a big old thread about it, and it even has pictures

Cause I couldn't find the hole :D (that doesn't sound right) And the manual says to remove the wheel. Maybe I didn't have too? It's done now. I changed the one on my old B2 & that was done in 10 minutes on the side of the street.

Oh! It def helps to be able to find the hole!

I am trying to find an ignition switch for a 92 here in Canada, it is only available here from a Ford dealership. The cost is over $80 cdn after tax! I see that autozone has them for $10.99. Anyone interested in shipping one to me! It would still be cheaper with exchange and shipping than buying one from Ford.

switch

I found one online for $15. Shipping was $3 and I'm about to try this "quick" procedure. I have no doubt that I will not be successful. Earlier, I tried to replace a blown bulb above my speedometer and was not successful. It made me a little angry!!!!

Success

Changing the switch was not difficult at all. I did not have to remove the steering wheel. The hardest part was finding the release button (last step to actually remove the switch).

The pictures helped out alot. Thank you
