Wish I had taken a picture.

But this weekend, after replacing brakes on my wifes car, I decided to finally bit the bullet and deal with cleaning the hubs out on my Explorer. For awhile I've been having problems with one side trying to partially engage when backing up and turning at the same time.

So I pull off the driver's side. No big issue. A little greasy, but not bad enough to cause problems. I still clean it up and soak it in ATF.

I go to the passenger side, pull off the hub and the cam tooth gear (the part that engages the cam on the spindle) and the spline gear just fall right out.

I guess the good news is I think I found my problem. I'm assuming that isn't supposed to fall out like that. When reassembling the hub on the spindle, I noticed it did push out as far as the driver side.

Now to find a replacement hub. I've thought about going to manual, but since I don't do any serious off roading anymore with this explorer I like the ease of push button.
