So, for the last 2 years or so I've heard a lot of knocking from my engine. From everything I've read it seems that this is the number one symptom of bad cam chains, tensioners, or guides. I went on fords website and it didnt bring up anything about the service programs for my VIN. Last summer I went to my dealer and asked them if it had been done and they had a mechanic look at my engine with a flashlight and a few seconds later he told me the programs had been done.
Skip to today... For the last few weeks I've noticed this noice getting louder. I've also noticed noises coming from, what seem to be just on the other side of the firewall. I went to my dealer today and went in the service room and the guy took my VIN and this time he told me program 00M12 was still open (not done). This program extended the warranty for 6 yrs or 72K. The service guy said that this warranty is for the front cam chain guides only and the rears are not covered under any program. He also said that because my odometer reads 72,123 mi, that I would not be covered even after I told him that I had been in before inquiring about this and they told me it had been done.
I went home and called ford customer service. I got a very nice guy on the phone and after he researched the programs he told me that there are two programs for my truck:
00M12 - Tensioners and intake manifold o-rings. 6 yrs 72K.
01M01 - Cam chain guides. 7 yrs 100K.
He told me that what he documented about our conversation would be sent to my dealer and kept on file.
I called my dealer back and talked to the same guy I saw earlier. He told me that customer service is wrong. He says that whatever it is that I need is only covered until 72K and I'm SOL. I tend to believe ford customer service because the guy who helped me really doesnt have too much knoledge about the programs and any information he gave me was researched and read off a computer. The guy at my dealer is one of the types that won't let you get a word in and he just kept telling me that customer service is wrong and I need to make an appointment.
Here are my questions:
What is the real deal about these programs? Who is right?
What causes the knocking that I'm getting? Guides, tensioners, chains?
I'm not really SOL because I have an aftermarket warranty that covers me on all drivetrain parts until 93K, but I really dont want to go thru them and have to pay my deductable and diagnosis costs. I also think I have a pretty good argument against ford that since I was told the problems had been taken care of before I was out of coverage they should still be held responsible. That will come up if it comes down to it. If I take off the mileage it took me to drive to the dealer the two times I went to ask about this, I would be under 72K.
