"Hello everyone,
I need some help decoding the numbers on the small metal tag attached to my rear axle. I’m planning to rebuild my rear differential and want to make sure I order the right parts. I found several complete kits on RockAuto, but I’m having trouble understanding what these numbers mean. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!"

I think it's a 3.73 , most likely limited slip.
Check your door manufacture tag for an axle code to be sure

I would say you have 8.8 differential with 3.73 gear ratio and limited slip/traction lock.

I found several complete kits
These kits are not always complete if you have the limited slip axle, the clutch plates must be ordered
seperately.

Unfortunately sometimes the lock screw brake while disassemling. Inspect the spider gears, s-spring and center pin for wearout.
If you plan a complete rebuild you need a crush sleeve too. A complex affair to get the optimal contact pattern of ring and pinion.

If you use Ford OEM gears, the existing shimming will work. I used SKF bearings and seals and Ford gears and the shimming was balls on.

Aftermarket gears and it gets more complicated
