info on shift kits please

hi all can someone please give me some info on different kits to improve my 1997 xl's sluggish and rather erratic shifts please part nos and links would be great cheers shaun ps im in OZ

do you have the V8? if so, you have the 4R70W tranny. go here www.baumannengineering.com and get one of their shift kits. easy install, and one of the best out there in my opinion.

Ive got a 2001 XLT w/ 4.0L SOCH

and is there shift kit available for my vehicle (not the electric switchable one).. but the "install in the tranny" one

You have the 5R55E. Yes there's a shift kit out there somewhere for it I'm sure.

Thanks Jason- i was pretty sure i had the 5R55E - thanks for confirming that.

Hmm ill have to look hard for the manual shift kits not the electronic ones..
I know B&M makes an electric one.. cant seem to find the manual types for the 5R55E

in a 97 xl explorer in oz auto obviously. can i get a plug in module for the shifts if so any ideas where thankyou

Assuming that you have an OHV b/c yours is an XL, you have the 4R55E Tranny. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But i'm 99.9% sure.

Yep, your wrong. All 97-01 V6 explorers have the 5R55E.

For plug in (electronic), Summit has the B&M Shift Plus. The B&M p.n. is 70381 and you can read up on it at bmracing.com

On summit they list the electronic shift kit to be good only explorers 95-97.. no mention of anything newer.. IE my 2001 XLT 4.0 SOHC

IS there anything avail for the 5r55E tranny.. i cant seem to find any shift improves.. electric or manual

Even the OHVs? I thought they changed in 98. I thought the OHC only have the 5R55E in 97? Hey, ya learn something new everyday!

Yes even the OHV's.

The 4R55E is a 95-96 tranny only.
