My 2004 Sport Trac is (was) in perfect condition. We have had very hot weather and today it was sitting in the direct sun and the rear view mirror fell off. The adhesive which was holding it just melted. I tried unsuccessfully to super glue it. Is there a fix I can do or am I going to have to make a trip to the dealer?

3M double sided stickies work good, but dont know if it will hold up to that kind of heat. Worth a try for a couple bucks.

you can get rearview mirror repair kits relatively cheap but I'm not sure if it will be any better than before

get this here or something alike , clean the area well (before cleaning it mark it on the outside of windshield so you know where it goes ) take the part off the mirror assembly that touches the windshield , it should be a little metal piece, use the adhesive and stick it into its place , you better off doing it late afternoon so it can wait and dry till the morning plus no sun :)
good luck!
(sorry for my english , not my native language)

Thanks to the forum members

all of you have been so helpful! Thanks!! To Turk also, thank you. You have given me a lot of great tips. I LOVE this site.

Autozone will glue it back for free, if you purchase the adhesive from them

Welcome to this forum! Only use rearview mirror adhesive. Any other adhesive will come off. Even the special adhesives eventually come off. Does anybody remember the old cars that had a metal arm from the upper roof interior holding the mirror?
