I recieved my 73mm C&L from Hensonperformance on Thursday and have been dying to put it in my truck.

I have to modify my Volant intake to accept the bigger MAF- also have to plug the old screw holes with silicone.

The question is, did the people who have done this Mod need to get their "X's re-tuned right away or can it wait. I am told that sometimes this size MAF can throw engine codes and make the engine run lean.

Do to my vacuum leak I feel that I am getting extra fuel in the engine any way so maybe more air would help things out.

I would love to re-tune but don't have the $350 it would take for dyno time and money to pay the Calibrator, especially around the Holidays. I should have it within two weeks or so.

I am dying to install that MAF Today though, and will include pictures.

I didn't re-tune nor did Doug (Bama) suggest I had to. Just do the battery disconnect thing.

Thanks Cell.

In she goes today :burnout:

MAF is in and oh boy did it make a difference. I have only had it in for about 25 minutes of driving so the computer is still trying to adjust the A/F ratios, after the reset. I figure by Wednesday it should calibrated correctly. From the sound of the Volant intake box, it seems that the air is much less restricted and flowing better.

Initial evaluation, much better mid range and throttle response- very noticable WOT difference. With the Factory 4.10 gears and performance 5R55E Valve Body, this sucka really flies- near exceeding its capabilities of braking and handling.

One problem though I have it mounted through my Volant airbox, because of the angle of the mount the Volant box is no longer sitting at the proper angle to keep it secured. I know the MAF Sensor should be solidly mounted so that it does not shift around, the way it is now I cannot get the Volant air box wedge in tight enough, and there is a lot of play. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to secure the Volant box so that it won't move around?

Next up is the Demon Coil and plug gaps widend to .065 and then Zabtech TB.

After all is well, the custom re-tune will take place & hopefully lay down some serious numbers.

Best numbers so far with the Vacuum leak were 165hp, 218Tq- last March. Whole host of new parts since, hopeing for 200hp at the wheels.

I didn't really have the same problem with either the SOHC or the V8 rendition of my Volant (with C&L MAF of course). I find that the Volant sits in there pretty snug. You may just have to loosen up your couplers and twist the who setup around a bit until you get it in the position you want it in.

Yeah I tried that, but the C&L mod seems to have changed the angle that the filter mounts into the box, either that or I messed up the hole when I dremmeled it. The box sits on its front corner because the angle is so sharp. The Bottom of the box is in the air with no surface to grip to.

The Volant does not sit as flat as it used to and I can't wedge it in like before for some reason. It moves back and forth and will not stay in the wedged position.

It was dark when I finaly bolted it in, so I did not have a lot of time to adjust it, I will revisit it tonight.

Thanks Celly.
