Installing a COLD AIR INTAKE?

Hey Guys, Ive been thinking of putting a COLD AIR INTAKE on my 2003 Explorer 4.6L V8

Do you think I would notice a big difference in FUEL MILEAGE? or NO

I currently had a flat bed K&N Filter in the SUV right now.

What would you suggest?

you have the V8? i think thats a 5.0 so make sure you specify if you plan on buying one. i havent noticed a sizeable gain in power, but i did notice a slight increase in mpg. i got a 1-2 mpg increase after i threw on a KN intake.

in theory you would net some fuel efficency gain from a cold air intake, but you would likely have to drive your truck for 10 years to make up the difference, not to mention CAI's make the 4.6l sound like it belongs on a race track and as a result you will be harder on the gas just to hear her sing. I have a full blown aftermarket intake (I mean EVERYTHING from filter to heads) as well as UDP's, and high flow exhaust.. and i netted a whole nother 1.5 mpg city and 3 mpg highway. Really impressive for the thousands of dollars i spent. If you are wanting a little more from your truck start with a K&N intake, a magnaflow catback exhaust kit, and a tune from james at henson performance. it wont quite be a night and day difference, but you will likely shave a second or so off of your 0-60 times. Plus, it sounds great.

yup, my bad. i didnt even see that you have the 03. for some reason i was thinking 01. i think that if you just have an intake, or just have a nice catback system, the power gains wont be very noticeable, but if you have both and then get a tune, it can really open things up for you.

Hey boys thanks for the feedback greatly appreciate it.

I've been thinking of doing a manga flow cutback exhaust and the cold air intake but I'm going to have to wait a bit I had to get 2 bearings replaced on my explorer the rear passenger and front passenger took about a solid 3.5 hours but the suv is super quiet now. Driver front bearing and rear driver bearing was done 6 months ago.

Mechanic gave me a deal and he put the premium quality bearings that came with a 3 year warranty on the hub bearings and rear bearings as well each which is great.

I told him don't use cheap I want good ones lol.

Btw I'm from Canada so I'm not sure what Henson performance is must be from the states!
