Instrument cluster 1997 eddie

I have a 1997 eddie Buaer and I am trying to figure out it a instrument cluster from a 2001-2003 ford exploerer 4x2 sport trac (white face, real nice) would fit my Explorer. Does the 1997 use the cable for the speedo? The guy who is selling says if it does not use the cable it is a direct fit. Just wanted to know before I shell out the cash for it.
