instrument pod removal

I am going to replace my instrument pod in my 2001 sport trac.
What is the procedure to remove it?
How do I disconnect the gear shifter wire?

You don't need to remove the shifter indicator unless you're replacing it, if you pop the gauges ovv, (3 panels pop off) the shifter indicator just lifts out. If you do, pull it out, then flip it over, you'll see a loop that you lift off the pin attached to the orange pointer, and then release the holder that holds the wire housing to the shifter indicator.

Might be hard to read, but it's obvious when you're in there.
