Not got an Explorer now..
It's that time of year again: insurance renewal notice for the Explorer drops on the doormat and I visit Confused.com to checkout their best quotes.
Last year the AA got my business (via Confused.com) at a price of around £350 for full comp, protected max NCB, etc, etc.
The renewal came through at £533.67(!) along with the 'good' news that the AA had found an alternative insurer prepared to offer me the same cover for £473.69....
And the best that Confused.com turned up? £292.43 from More Than, who have got my business this year.
It seems to be the same every year - I NEVER get a competitive renewal price from whichever company offered the best price the year before. In fact, 2 or 3 years ago I got my renewal from More Than which Confused.com beat by about £50. So I took the £50 cheaper policy with... More Than!

I sometimes get the idea that if you can be bothered filling in the forms over and over, you get different prices from the same companies........ Someone told me that they just resubmitted the form about five or so times and then a cheap offer popped up, so they took it......

Try Tesco car insurance, apparently their really good.My mate says you can barter them down for a better price.

£950

Hi
With 3 yrs NCB, £350 excess, fully comp Churchill wanted £700 to renew my policy (London address)! The best confused.com came up with was £590 so out of interest I got an online quote from Churchill. Guess what - £558!!! I couldn't believe it. I called the renewal line to ask them why and they ummed and aghed and honoured the online price. They do try it on don't they!
Moral of this story - never accept a renewal without checking online!

Insurance Deals

I use Confused.com and because they store your quotes, resubmitting details is easy. More than got my business on price. It is normal to bump up the price on renewal, never renew without re-quoting. you'll find as my wife and I have that your own insurers are cheaper because they want new business. inertia costs dearly. Of course they um and ah when you call them because they don't like to lose money, but eventually they cave in rather than lose you:exp:

Hmmm...
I quite enjoy phoning them to say that I won't be renewing my insurance because I've got a better quote. When they say "We could run you a new quote" or even "we can match it" I simply remind them that if they had given me their 'best' price for my renewal in the first place we wouldn't be having this conversation...
