Just rang my insurance company to inform then that I've moved from Northamptonshire to Liverpool and they took great delight in telling me that over the next 5 months (remainder of my policy) that they're going to charge me an extra £600.. nice... but the best bit is, providing I make no claims in the next 5 months, my renewal will be.... £3000.. amazing, my annual fee has tripled just for moving back in with my parents..

Fantastic..so I'll probably end up selling the Explorer unless I can get it near what I was paying till I moved, which was £1000...

I hate insurance people, and if that wasn't bad enough, I went to the DVLA office in chester today only to be told that the database they have with all the insurance details on isn't actually accessible.. so I couldn't tax my car..

Hope next year is going to be better!!!!!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Si

Man thats crazy, go to a comparison website and fill out the form, all the major companys will come back to you with cheaper quotes!
Stevie Wonder driving an F40 could get cheaper insurance if he lived near a drug den in a flood prone area in Bagdad, had 9 points on his licence, had written off 6 cars proir, killed the transport minister in a hit and run and got convicted for it!

???

Those ruddy b@######! How can they increase your policy premium while it's in effect? And why such a high premium??

Check this link: http://www.kanetix.com/affban35?ClickID=070613. Explorer Forum gets a little money if you request a free insurance quote. Maybe they will give you a lower rate than your present company? If you take a 5 hour defensive driving class, you could get 10% off your premium for the next 3 years.

Thats shocking mate im with privilege insurance and its something like £450!! shop around dude

I'm with you too... Damn insurance, they raised my rate $300 a year because I am no longer a student but now am a graduate... and it went up another $250 for living in Seattle city limits and not the suburbs.

Thanks dude, but I don't think they'll insure me in England!

England is at the bottom of the page...

Get old, it works and how to save money on your insurance

I hate to tell you guys but insurers are not the benevolent institutions they once were ( if they ever were). it's all down to risk, which they have down to a fine art. Age, crime risk, occupation, your track record will, amongst others, affect your premium. Sadly Stevie Wonder in Baghdad would be uninsurable in a Trabant let alone an F40. It helps to be old- I pay around £200 but have full NCB, no points (now) and am approaching 60. it'll start to go up when I'm 65. More Than treated me well when I gently scraped another car poking the long nose of an Explorer out at a blind junction, considering it to be a no fault accident (perhaps they know you have a long way to emerge to see anything).

That aside,www. confused.com and others are great for real comparison. Remember though to reassess every year as insurers penalise inertia and loyalty. That's why they only send renewal details a short time ahead so you have no time to compare! If you stay with them they'll up the premium. The name of their game is new customers and they get the best rates. Whenever, I renew I requote after I receive the renewal notice on the same insurer's website. It is always cheaper. When I tackle them, they are ALWAYS baffled it is cheaper (hah hah) and then reluctantly lower the price to match. More Than, bless them, did it with good grace, but don't be fooled guys, their job is to get the most money out of you, not save you money. My wife saved £200 with her own insurer by tackling them, after comparing prices, with themselves!

Finally, after you've used a price comparison website like confused.com, re-enter the details direct into the cheapest insurer's website. There may be different questions and it could save you a little more money.

Also, check more than one comparison site because these sites do not have a tie in to all insurers and earn their money by commission. It is a bore, and can take a couple of hours to do it thoroughly, but you can save hundreds!

I used to be with an insurance company that took into account my 4 cars n gave me a policy that mirrored the bonus on all 4 cars, on the understanding that you can't drive all of them at the same time, so for each car you had full bonus, but then, I had a minor crash and they more than doubled the premium, so it was actually cheaper to insure all 4 seperately..

Now that I don't have a job, I can only afford to insure 1 car..
