I was wandering if anyone knows if there is a company that makes a plenum spacer for the 1st gen aluminum intakes. I have noticed that the plenum gets pretty warm from the conduction through the lower intake and I would like to try to keep it a little cooler. Any info would be great.

Nobody that I know of, but it shouldnt be to hard, get a few pieces of phenolic (sp?) trace the runners, and cut on a band saw....simple.

Or you could get a later model upper intake, plastic, and accomplish the same thing.
However longer runners = more torque, in theory anyways.

I had Phenolic spacers on my old 2.9L, and it helped, a little.

So are you saying you could run the late model plastic intake on a 91? Will the electronics of the intake on the 2000 model work with the 91 explorer computer? I will be putting a 00 ranger 4.0 in my 91 and would like to use as much of the 00 parts as possible.

I believe so, though I have never tried. You will need the lower from the earlier motor, there may be some unused sensors or ports on the plastic upper plenum.....
