2000 ford explorer v6
I have a 2000 ford explorer v6 xlt sohc, shes run all the way up to 205k miles but alas theres finally trouble with the tranny. I was wondering what model cars have a transmission that fits my car, like maybe a ford ranger or mustang, just to help spread my options a bit. Junkyards around here typically arent super friendly when i ask what parts are interchangeable. Thanks for any advice :)

I'm not knowledgeable on this much, but think the question is whether your Ex is a 4X4. The Mustang transmission option would be the poorer choice then, as the output shaft would have to be changed, along with the tail housing. The Ranger in 4X4 might just be the same, but might is my own word meaning I just dunno. Someone else will. imp

1998-2001 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer with 4.0L v6, RWD
2001-2004 Explorer Sport and Sport trac, RWD
1998-2011 Ford Ranger / Mazda B4000 with 4.0L V6 and RWD

Those all use the 5r55e automatic and are compatible with your trucks transmission
In 2000+ there was an additional speed sensor added to the transmission, you can simply ignore it when installing one of those into your truck
KEEP your transmission around until you install the new one, you might need to use your 998 wiring harness and DTRS (digital trans range sensor)

I was wondering (more like hoping " if there was a factory recall on bad tranny''s ? I have a 2003 Xlt Sport 2 dr. 4wd that the transmission took a crap on ! almost 200,00 miles and first break down of any kind that I know !

no recalls
200K miles is good for the 5r automatic!

Recall for a transmission that is 16 years old and has 200,000 miles on it........ That’s not how recalls work. If you got 200,000 with no other repairs the car owes you nothing, let alone the manufacturer.

Thank ya kindly. My tranny has a real hard time shifting in the first few gears. Only happens when shes warmed up and ive turned her off, ill drive for a bit after, few hard shifts, and itll lurch forward and it won't happen again. Really weird, it hasnt gotten any worse its been doing it for like a year and a half lol.
