Hi,
I have a 2002 Sport Trac and I am having intermittent starting problems. I found several old forums on here with the same issue but no solid solutions. I at least know i'm not the only one with the problem.
The truck runs fine but sometimes, after I have been driving it, it will not start. It turns over and cranks, sometimes it sputters, then it seems like i'm out of gas or maybe flooded. after I let it sit for a while, it will start, however, the past few times it seemed to run rough and it smelled like gas.
I have had it to 3 mechanics. None have been able to reproduce the problem. I recently had it towed to a friends shop when it didn't start and he said it started up and drove off the rollback.
All three doubt that its a fuel pump but they cannot reproduce the issue. I spoke to dealer mechanics. I don't get half way through explaining the problem and they say "Fuel Pump". I know that is an expensive job and i have seen on other threads where people have replaced several fuel pumps only to find they still have the problem. I don't mind replacing the fuel pump if I know that is the problem for sure.
Is anyone familiar with this problem or know of a solution. Any info would help. Thanks.
