Hi all
Joined this forum a couple of days ago.
Bought my Dora back in Dec off of ebay, been after a 4x4 for a while and i liked the idea of the explorer coz of bang for bucks.
Mine was a spares or repair coz of chains rattle, did a little bit of research on the tensioner issue and was not put off.
Oil change (including cleaning all the bits of plastic out of the oil pick up) and the rattle not as bad.
I bottled out of doing the work myself and took it to a mech i know that is used to working on big V8's etc. Got a call the other day to have a look now the timing cover is off.
The main guide was gone and the bottom guide for the jack to balance is also awol, meaning now the upper oil sump need to come off to find more pieces and to enable bottom tensioner to be fitted. The crank to jack chain could move about 3" so i really don't know how she was still running. Luckily i had bought a complete kit from stateside (£220 delivered) so have all the bits i need.
Can't wait to get her back.
On another note does anyone have recommendations/cost on windscreen replacement as mine is cracked
Bought (from Chrisq) the tool kit 6488? that will be up for sale after my mech finished the chains. Let me know if you interested other wise will ebay it.
Also if anyone thinking about doing the lower ball joint then make sure you have a big hammer:hammer:. not too hard a job so give it a go :D
Thats all for now but gotta check ARC system when i get her back after reding a couple of threads on the subject
