Is a K&N worth the money?

K&N filters are oiled and the oil gets on your air flow meter and kills it so I do not recommend K&N filters but I can't find anyone else who makes a kit to fit the 2006-11 Explorer 4.6L so if you want performance and can afford K&N then spend a few dollars more and replace the oiled filter with a dry one...the filters are available just the kits aren't.
I ran K&N on my 1999 F250 Light Duty (looks like the F150) and had to replace the mass air flow meter twice before I figured out why they kept dying. After I found a dry conical filter to replace the K&N I have had no further trouble.

Spectre Performance makes parts (but not a kit) for the intake on a 4.6L and am looking at piecing together my own kit with their parts.

Kurtz Kustoms makes good products. I just can't use them in California as they are not CARB legal. I have K&N's in all of my vehicles now. I use the drop in filters and have never had a problem with the MAF. You need to go light on the oil when you clean them. I have noticed a slight performance increase on all of them, but very slight. RV with V10, Silverado with 5.3, Explorer, 2.3 Ranger, and a Saturn Vue with 3.6 Vortec. The Vue had the most performance increase, but that thing is too fast for a SUV anyway.

That's because the v10 exhaust sucks at the y pipe. It's my next thing to change on the F250.

K&n

Nothing wrong with K&N filters .I have used them in 4 cars never a problem.

At ford parts and service Dept near where I live ,Ford has a performance section, there on display at ford, K&N air filters. So if K&N filter were messing up peoples cars Ford would not be selling them.

I just bought one at advance auto parts For 32 bucks on sale great deal. Installed in my 2014 explorer sport . If ever a problem I will post it

A note never never over oil it .Follow directions carefully

just my 2 cents
