Is ABS & speed sensor the same thing?

I saw some people talking about speed sensors and Im wondering if that is the same as the ABS sensor on 2003 Explorer XLT 4WD

NO! Speed sensor usually refers to sensor(s) present in the transmission and/or transfer case for the purpose of detecting discrepancies in shaft speeds due to various causes.

ABS sensors compare relative speeds of wheels in comparison to each other, and also to detect locking of wheels when braking. Sometimes ABS sensor signals are used for the added purpose of providing speed info for speedometers, etc. imp

Yes and no. The speed sensor is located in the rear differential. This sensor supplies signals to various different vehicle systems(speedometer, PCM, etc.). And it also supplies the signal for the ABS system for the rear wheels. When you have 4 wheel ABS the is an ABS(speed) sensor in each front bearing assembly. However the front ones only supply signals for the ABS system. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions just ask, me or someone else will jump in to help.
