is this is the correct overdrive servo?

My over drive servo cracked so i bought this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-5R55W-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5ad6d1c7&vxp=mtr ... but it seems to have some hard rubber on the outside and the original did not it also seems to be a pretty tight fit into the cover is this normal or should the cap fit loosley over the servo?

There is supposed to be rubber covering the servo just like the picture in the listing. Your old servo is loose because the rubber is worn down. I've never seen such a worn servo. Could you post a picture of it? The rubber usually cracks & becomes brittle over time. How many miles do you have? Since these transmissions have servo bore issues, I would recommend the servos with O rings instead of the standard servos.

i didn't notice you already purchased the servo. i recently bought one from the dealership and it's tough to tell from the picture on ebay, but mine didn't have rubber around the whole thing like that one. it does have the rubber around the edge to create a seal though.

Are the outside diameters the same? The one in the listing is 2.5" OD and if you have the 5r55s it should be about 2.875" OD. I just replaced the one in my 03 with a 5r55s. Ford part- 4W4Z-7D021-A

The outside diameter of the servo piston has to match the inside diameter of the cover. There should be a code written on the servo cover.

Your factory servo has two O rings. The aftermarket servo has bonded rubber on a metal servo. You could replace the two O rings on the OEM servo if you want to reuse it. The aftermarket servo doesn't have this option.

I guess i dont understand what your saying...are you talking about the aluminum cover with the 2 o rings on the outside? If so the only reason the second picture dosent have them is because i had to heat the cover up a little bit to get the aftermarket servo back out because as you can see in the first picture it didnt look like it was fully seated in the cover... when seating i had to use a hammer and try and seat the servo in the cover but after thinking about it it just dosent seem like its fitting correctly so i took it back out....

The middle of the.new servo measures about 2.5" and the cover measures 2.50" id...however the upper rubber lip closest to the top cone of the servo is much larger than the cover causing the very tight fit...

How tight should the servo be pressed into the cover and should it seat fully into the cover without a gap like above?

It should have a snug fit.

so according to that picture is the servo fully seated in the cover or should that gap in between the cover and the servo lip not be there... in other words should the lip be touching the cover?

it just dosen't seem to be seating all the way because when i go to put it in the tranny i have to really press it in there to the point where i have to knock it in with a piece of wood and a hammer and then put the snap ring in. once its in there is no play what so ever when pushing down on the servo cap... where as the immediate servo has some play(movement) when i press it down. is this normal to have no play what so ever once its installed..

The tranny is out of the vehicle and i tore it all apart to check everything and replace the servo and burned band and clean everything. i just want to make sure the servo is in there correctly while the tranny is out because it makes it way easier.

Aftermarket servo?? Your link to the Ebay listing states the manufacturer as Ford. Did it come new in Ford packaging? What transmission do you have?

Can you compare it to the old one? Pics?

Measure the depth of the cover, and compare it to the depth of the original servo, and the replacement servo.
