Is This The Truck For Me?

You're confusing the hell out of me.
Your friend said it was 4wd?
It wasn't actually 4wd but has an Advance Trac badge?
But yet it seems to have at least some apparently spilndly apparatus in the front that doesn't measure up to your expectations?
Where are you going with this? It can't be a serious post.

Whats so connfussing Eddy? Yes, my friend said the truck was 4wd, there is no way to manually select 4wd so I assume it must be AWD and it has the Advance Trac badge. The spindly thing drives the front wheel just like an AWD Escape and honestly does not measure up. I have no faith in any AWD system on soft sand. I want a truck that I can drive on the beach. That was the whole point of this thread, I'm not trolling here.

Do the controls look identical to the picture posted above? If so, then you can manually select 4WD Hi or Low.

If it's a 2007 4WD Explorer then it will have the buttons on the center console. If it's a 2007 Merc Mountaineer then it will be AWD and not have the buttons and thus AWD. If it has front shafts it's 4WD even if it's a Merc.. No Explorer of that vintage was front wheel drive.
Is it a Mercury or a Ford?

as for a irs/ifs setup not being up for the task just about all cars/trucks these days use CV shaft axles and many people have close to 1000hp setups with out problems....not much of a difference between the 03-04 cobra irs and the explorers rear ends and dont leave out durability of a Z06 or ZL1 ..... I dont know a truck on the market that still uses a live front axle because steering and suspension articulation will suffer like an old 1980's bronco..... and on the explorers whether it be 4wd or awd the fronts are always getting power..... something like 80/20% all the time but after about 2 seconds of rear slip it transfers more to the front..... rule of thumb ive been taught is to try to never use low lock unless you are really up ***** creek as a last ditch effort .... even when I had my 1979 jeep I never used low range.....only thing these 4th gens need is limited slip diffs and the brakes dont slow **** down.... there is a couple threads on here about what to do..... I would recommend the thread about swapping in the unit from the 03/04 cobra since its much less cost
