Is this what KKM looks like?

Dinky little filter isn't it? I think the bracket's too flimsy too. One thing to check for is a gap between the MAF and KKM's adapter plate, they don't provide a gasket like my K&N FIPK did. A lot of people like the KKM's for the cost, but I didn't mind paying the extra $40 for the better quality FIPK kit.

Yeah, the only kit for the SOHC is the K&N FIPK II which the cheapest i found it for was $228 (b/c it includes an intake tube ~ which won't do much)

If i were to do it all over again, i would probably buy the Mac intake that EE sells for $140 but alas... My KKM will suit me fine

Im just about to install my KKM intake that I just got. Do i need to take out the bottom part of the stock airbox and how do i do that? Also the wires that were connected to the top of the stock airbox what do i do with those? By the way its a 1993

do a search. take out the bottom...its just a few more screws. one of the lines is a vacum line. use the included screw to plug it. the other one can be removed or ignored.

How do you actually clean it? Do you run it through water with soap- inside and out? Aren't you supposed to apply oil as the final step?
From the back of my S&B Air Filter Oil spray can...

CLEANING (WET): Remove clinging debris from element by tapping on a hard surface. Lightly brush heavily soiled areas. Agitate element in 1/2" of hot water and laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, or an industrial cleaner (NONFLAMMABLE). DO NOT USE GAS OR FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS. Thoroughly soak the element and let stand for a few minutes. Use a water hose or faucet and rinse from the inside out using a low water pressure. This element can be re-oiled and left to dry. A very light oiling is recommended after each washing.

OILING: Hold can 4" away and make only one pass around the element. Let element stand for 15 minutes so the oil can be soaked up by the dry areas. The oil should completely cover all pleats without dripping from the element edges.

Wow! Thanks for the info,Johnstone. I'm sure it'll come in handy next year when I clean mine. :)

I have no clue, Garth. Try to start a new thread on the subject. I'm pretty sure you'll get your answer right away. This thread is more than 5 months old. I doubt many members that knows the answer will check this thread out again.

Gauze filters use oil to trapped dirt and small particles. Therefore you need to gently clean/wash the filter to remove this old oil and dirt trapped within it.

I always start this job when I don't plan on using my X for the night. After the filter is washed I let it dry overnight before oiling. In the morning I oil the filter and let it stand for 1/2 hour and then re-install. I should pick up an extra filter so I can swap out the dirty with clean and be on the road again in minutes.
