Issues with a flashing O/D light.

Hello there, i have a 97 ford explorer 4x4 xl. today driving it and gas tank was low so the check gage light came on and then all of a sudden the "o/d off" light started flashing on and off. i got gas the check gage light went off but the other light stayed on turned off the vehicle for a couple hrs then drove again after 10minutes of driving the o/d off light turned off.?? why would this happen and is this anything to be concerned about?? any help..

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions & transfer cases section. A flashing overdrive light indicates a code which is stored. You will have to find out what the code numbers are.
