They point out a lot of things members of this forum have complained about.

Ford retuned the suspension, but this family bus still feels rather big to drive with reluctant handling. Most rivals are much more sedan-like in their reflexes, particularly the Dodge Durango, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Toyota Highlander. To its credit, ride comfort remains mostly settled and the cabin is quiet, except for the raspy engine.

An update can only go so far given the basic architectural shortcomings, and there are lots of them on this dated platform. Outward visibility is problematic, with massive front windshield pillars and a small rear window. It doesn’t help that it feels like you’re sitting deep in a pit inside, surrounded by high door sills. There’s tons of wasted space between you and the door. With all of that room, you’d think the narrow-feeling seats could have been made wider. The left foot rest is pushed so far inboard that it makes you sit crooked, and over time, you begin to feel that in your lower back.

This Explorer has the MyFord Touch infotainment system, which is convoluted and can be frustrating to use. Explorers fitted with the simpler Sync 3 system most likely won't be on sale until later in the 2016 model year. Either way, the Sony stereo now gets regular buttons to replace the horrible touch-sensitive flush switches from before, but did they have to cram all of these buttons into a two-inch high strip?

Ultimately, even with the updates, it feels like Ford is buying time with this late-life update until a complete redesign arrives, likely based on the much more modern Fusion-based platform.

Least they didn't mention the 4 years of leaks, hopefully Ford figured it out for the '16.

Honestly I couldn't give a rats-a$$ about CR and their "reporting" as they only seem to be in love with Japanese vehicles and are overly picky about things that to me just seem petty.

Exactly, CR is a joke of a reporting magazine and don't take anything they have to say seriously... and that goes for all auto manufacturers, not just Ford.

Want to review toasters, refrigerators or vacuums.. sure read CR. Want to read up on cars/trucks, CR is a complete joke.

I agree. I literally quit buying CR after finally switching from Honda to Ford and realized their Japanese bias. But, they nailed their Explorer review - at least the parts mentioned in the OP.

You have to understand who Consumer Reports' audience is...consumers. Generally speaking, the average consumer is nit picky (myself included in most cases) and dumb or at least uneducated (yes, again myself included) especially when first starting to research a purchase. I personally can appreciate the different spin that CR puts into their reviews but there is no way I'm basing a major purchase like a 50k SUV on one source's review anyways so I just chalk it up to one viewpoint/opinion valid or not.

What's funny is that all of you guys are banging on CR, but they have noted the exact same concerns that have surfaced on this forum. That was the point of posting this...they actually have uncovered real world concerns in the vehicle.

I think Mr. blwnsmoke has brought up the same issues, but he wants to bash CR for the same report...amusing to say the least.:scratch:

That's funny, everything you listed above I have never complained about. The one "issue" that I can see people relating to is MFT which I have had really no issues with MFT since 3.6.2 and with my 2015 F350 with MFT, I've had ZERO issues with it which I've had just over a year now.

And since you didn't post a link or quote out the article for us to read, I guess I can't really know what else there is in there. I guess I could google it but I revert back to my original post, I could care less what CR says.

And if you think CR isn't bias, you have your blinders on.

Hmm let's see, Autoblog seems to like it (you know, an automotive magazine specializing in automotives)...

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/05/18/2016-ford-explorer-first-drive-review-video/

As does Motortrend (you know, an automotive magazine specializing in automotives)...

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1505_2016_ford_explorer_first_drive_review/

As does Car and Driver (wait for it.... you know, an automotive magazine specializing in automotives)...

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-ford-explorer-first-drive-review

And then you have CR (toaster, lawn mower, fridge, stove and ac experts)..

Thanks but I'll take what true auto magazines and testers say under consideration with my auto purchase over CR any day.

Ummm....no. 2017. Discussed in other threads.

LOL....the space between the seats and the doors is there for crash protection. It puts a space between you and the door so if you get T-boned you have some crunch space!

CR and many other auto reviewers complained about the MFT system as the main complaint, but the Highlander's and CR-V's worse and it's not mentioned in the reviews. I had a Highlander (older gen) and the Toyota and Honda forums have a lot more complaints about those systems.

Personally, I found the MFT fairly easy to use - at least the buttons and touch screen. I'm not sure what was hard about it. The voice commands are ok, but that's true of my iPhone too.

Well cr reporting about a car is like a dentist telling the heart doctor how to do a heart transplant.

I have subscribed to CR for as long as I can remember. It is the only magazine I subscribe to. I have found their articles/reviews very informative and have used their reports and others as 'guidelines' in making many purchases over the years.

I thought that was funny, in a sad way, and biased as well... As you noted, I want that space around me if I ever get in an accident!

Ever since the Suzuki Samurai debacle, cr has lost all credibility for me. Then they admit they "didn't really test the Toyota Camry for a few years because it was essentially the same"? Really? From a former reformed Toyota owner, that is bogus!

Who gets the best review, those that pay the most? Sad...

Consumer Reports long ago lost its place as an authoritative source of information.

As noted, some of what is mentioned has been mentioned everywhere for the past 4 years.

As for the complaint about the footwell position causing back pain - really? Yeah, it took about a week to get used to after my prior Explorers, but it's not something I would ever complain about. It's just different.

Really? Does someone what space between the side of their head and their motorcycle helmet?

Last I checked, motorcycle helmets do not have airbags in them to deploy.

I have not experienced any of the items that CR reports with my 2014. MFT has operated flawlessly and I don't see any of the visibility issues they talk about. Someone posted and I agree that what often times CR describes as a negative about a vehicle is not something I would ever consider. I have also seen CR do a review of a specific type of vehicle, lets say mid sized SUV's and the one they liked best had a price $15,000 more than some of the others. Not a word about that mentioned.
