today after getting money for my 21st b-day I bought a rockford amp 900max 300w rms . I bought a 1800w max power acoustic 12" sub rated @ 700w continuous dual voice 200 oz magnet. its all installed by me of course =) and it sounds great, oh and the box is a Q-Logic ported box with the plexiglass cover.

thats alot of bass I would say.
Nice

me thinks your way under powering that sub....could damage the voice coils

I just bought a second KAC- X401M. I had one running two twelve’s, so now I have one for each. I can’t wait to hook it up, just have to by another capacitor.

Explain to me how exactly you would damage it by under powering it?

I would agree about it being way underpowerd as it makes for some nice bass inside the car but not to much outside , but I did cure the rear hatch rattle with some duct tape lolol, soon as I can get 400$ together Im replacing the amp with something more powerfull, but I couldnt pass up that sub at that price. unless someone has a more powerfull amp they would like to sell me for cheap.lol

im not exactly sure how... but htis is very true... i have seen speaker cabinets jsut stat smoking because they were horribly underpowered... what happens is they arent moving and displacing enough air to cool themselves off, so it works for awhile, but eventually they get hot and start cooking......

thats what the 20$ best buy waranty is for good for 4 years even if i hack at the woofer. :D

I burnt up a couple of voice coils in some 12" JBL's by under powering them. i guess by not having enough power the coil heats up trying to drive the woofer, causing it fail. I have always heard that it is easier to blow a sub by under powering it, than it is by over powering it.

Its not the fact that you're underpowering the speaker, its the fact that you're overpowering the amp. When an amp reaches its max the output begins to look like a square wave, rather than the sine wave that its trying to produce, and in extreme cases some amps will put out a constant DC voltage. It is harder for the untrained ear to hear this type of distortion than it is to hear the distortion of a speaker being overpowered. So while the speaker sounds 'normal' it is being fed a signal causing it to overheat.

ususally if you over power it is ok because they are designed to take a little more then rated my friend over powered two poineer and they ran great until they were stolen but he had them over powered by about 100 watts and they ran for 2.5 years
